This thermocouple is 39″ long and comes with 2 the space setting nuts and printed instructions.

When should I replace a thermocouple?

Replace a thermocouple when you can get the pilot light to ignite, but as soon as the gas bypass button is released, the flame goes out. Thermocouples are used to shut the propane or gas off if the flame goes out.  It is very important to never bypass the thermocouple.

Is it easy to replace a thermocouple?

Yes! Replacing a thermocouple is very basic if you are minimally handy and have a few basic tools.  We have put together a short video showing how to replace a thermocouple on an EZ Freeze propane refrigerator.

REPLACING A THERMOCOUPLE ON A EZ-FREEZE, DIAMOND, CRYSTAL COLD, OR BLIZZARD

You will have to access under the unit either by laying it on the side or tilting it. Some models have a cover over the bottom side of the controls you will need to remove. In this case, laying on the side is the best option. We recommend laying the unit on the side to your left if you are looking at the front door.

  1. After you have access to the underside of the unit and removed the cover (if applicable) remove the thermocouple fitting at the back of the safety valve using an 5/16” end wrench. Install the new thermocouple fitting and only tighten with light torque with a short end wrench. Do not use high torque as it can shorten the life of the thermocouple.
  2. Route the thermocouple as the original was routed toward the burner. If the thermocouple is excessive in length, you may coil it once or twice. Do not kink it. Use a jar or can to coil it around in order to keep from kinking it.
  3. Access the burner assembly as your owners manual suggests ;
  • EZ Freeze: remove the single screw and pull the burner assembly away from the flue box.
  • Diamond & Crystal Cold: remove the burner cover. 1 or 2 screws.
  • Blizzard (white color cooling unit): remove the burner cover. 1 or 2 screws.
  • Blizzard (grey color cooling unit): remove the single screw and pull the burner assembly away from the flue box.
  1. Loosen the lock nuts on the thermocouple using an open end wrench. 10mm, 11mm, or 7/16” depending on the model / vintage. Remove the lock nut nearest the thermocouple tip and slide the thermocouple out of the bracket.
  2. Place one lock nut on the new thermocouple and adjust it in position to where the same nut is on the original thermocouple. This will locate the position of the thermocouple in relation to the flame. The ideal position is for the tip of the thermocouple to be directly over the #2 slot of the burner tube counting from left to right. There are 6 slots total.
  3. Slide the new thermocouple in position and install the second lock nut and tighten it to the bracket.
  4. Stand the unit back up and relight. Test the thermocouple position by turning the thermostat to minimum / defrost setting in order to get the flame to switch to the “low” position. The thermocouple should continue to keep the safety valve open and the flame burning when the flame is on “low”. It may be necessary to let the fridge cool down for a few hours before you will be able to get a “low” flame setting. If the thermocouple shuts off when the unit switches to low flame, then the thermocouple may need to be adjusted further into the flame or the flame is not burning clean. Clean the burner tube in this case.
  5. Reinstall the burner assembly or burner cover. Be sure to check for leaks using a soapy water solution even if you have not disconnected any lines.

Shipping Info

This item ships LTL freight.  Freight costs will be determined at checkout or you can request a custom shipping quote by clicking here.  Shipping times vary from state to state and location but are typically between 3-5 business days.  Shipments can be made to your residence, business or to the closest freight terminal for pick up.

Warehouse Appliance offers a “no hassle” policy on damaged freight when shipping a Propane Refrigerator.

We understand that shipping a large appliance like a propane refrigerator can seem intimidating.  Not many of us are familiar with “LTL Freight”.  BUT it’s easy when purchasing through Warehouse Appliance by Dynamx!   Not only do you receive the lowest shipping costs, but we are here to help you receive your propane fridge. The video shown below will give you instructions and tips on how to receive your propane fridge in perfect condition.

Warehouse Appliance only ships with the most reliable freight companies, so damage is very rare. However, we want you to be prepared if it does happen.  BEFORE SIGNING THE DELIVERY RECEIPT we want you to unbox and inspect the freight (please view video below).  If, when un-boxing and inspecting your shipment, you notice any damage, you have 2 options.

You can refuse the shipment. The delivery company will send the shipment back to us.  Your replacement refrigerator will be sent to you the next available shipment day. Please call us to let us know you refused the shipment.
If you notice slight damage and would prefer to keep the propane refrigerator, simply note it on the delivery receipt before signing. Then send us a copy of the delivery receipt. We will file a claim for you and send you either parts (like a fridge door or handle) or cash (if there is a scratch or dent you can live with).

Never sign a delivery receipt without un-boxing and inspecting your propane fridge.  Delivery drivers must wait for you to do this – they are working for you.  Signing the delivery receipt without inspecting the freight means that you release the shipping company and Warehouse Appliance from all liability for a damaged fridge.  If you sign the delivery receipt and notice damage to the refrigerator after the driver has left, there is nothing we can do.  This is why inspecting the freight is so important.

We’ve put this video together for you to help you receive your propane refrigerator in excellent condition!
